Ethical Strategies for Incorporating AI into Clinical Psychology Practice and Training

Friday, June 5th from 12pm-2:30pm

(2.5 Ethics CE Credits)

Presented by: Douglas Roberts, Psy.D.

Program Description

This presentation is meant for those who are relatively new to or have some familiarity with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, particularly as they apply to the practice of clinical psychology. We will describe the mechanisms by which AI tools generate output, identify common tools that are available to the general public and to clinical psychologists, and apply existing ethical standards, research, and guidelines to identify best practices for the use of AI in clinical psychology practice for clinicians and with our trainees. This program will introduce and apply a phased strategy approach that builds toward how to ethically and appropriately incorporate AI tools into clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

1. Define artificial intelligence (AI) and describe the mechanisms by which popular AI tools generate output (language, images).

2. Identify three AI tools that are relevant to clinical psychology practice and training.

3. Describe current ethical standards and guidelines that inform appropriate use of AI tools in clinical psychology practice and training.

4. List and apply a five-phase strategy for training practitioners and trainees in ethical and appropriate use of AI tools in clinical psychology practice.
